Description We started off originally as a Medical device distributor in 2012 and up till 2016 we were importing medical devices and selling them to doctors. We generate revenues of about RM 1.3 million a year doing this business and we have a team of 5 staff, we have a running office and an existing client base of about 120 clients (clinics) actively buying from us. We are licensed to import and distribute medical devices in Malaysia by the Medical Device Authority of Malaysia.
Business Opportunity We realised in early 2016 that there was a huge decrease in the medical device distribution business and sales started going down for us and generally doctors were not investing in the type of devices we were selling which are a little high end as products we sell are all above RM 20k per unit and were not necessities. In late 2016, we decided not to fight the trend and get into absolute essentials like tubes, needles, syringes, bandages and smaller equipment such as Blood Pressure monitoring devices and glucose monitoring devices. We gathered all the importers and manufacturers in Malaysia and negotiated the lowest prices possible and decided to launch an online store in early 2017 selling 300+ consumables and small devices for clinics and hospitals. We decided to sell at least 30% than market price as right now what the doctors really need are cheap prices to survive rough conditions. We launched on the 5th of January 2017 and received some orders and we think with marketing push, this website can make it. We do not have the cash or manpower to make it happen so we need an investment.
Revenue / Business Model We know almost all the local importers and manufacturers in Malaysia who do not sell directly to clinics. What they do is they have agents or distributors sell their products for them and the mark up in this industry is usually not lower than 100%. What we did is we approached all of them, negotiated better prices and started posting it onto our online store. We only mark up 20% from the prices given to us which makes the products on our page substantially cheaper than what they are getting from their usual distributors. The model is simple, we do not keep stock. We only post the products up and market the website, each time we get an order, we receive payment first and we execute the order using that payment. We needed this risk free model to stay safe and we intend to continue using this risk free model. We have had doctors who advised us that the prices are fantastic, we just have to work on getting the word out.

Reinventing Malaysian Fitness Industry

Description I am a national karate athlete and a Malaysian MMA champion. I’ve literally grew up around sportsmen and sports as a whole. Today at 26, I’ve loked high and low for a performance-based gym space for me to workout but I can never find one. All we have in KL are the likes of Fitness First and such, with extremely high end prices and simply basic space (hundreds of machines), or the really low cost RM 5 gyms that serve the same purpose, bodybuilding.

In the National Sports Council where I train, we have a gym built for athletes, complete with everything that a performance minded athlete requires. Its not open to the public though.
That’s what i want to create, a fusion between a bodybuilding gym, performance gym and even a martial arts space, because that’s where my expertise lie. Performance gym in the sense of a space where functional workouts are done to cater for the more athletic person. Jumping, climbing, and everything in between. Using my expertise in the field to teach classes even to patrons, and simply show how else one can workout, other than just bench presses all day!

Business Opportunity Like I said above, the problem is that when I have gone out looking for a place to train, I have to make do with the measly equipment around me.

You might say that people in Malaysia are simply not like that, that most of us are oblivious when it comes to things like this. But I’ve been in this scene for the better part of my life, and there are so many people who would profit from something like this.

Especially in the market today! Everyone is concerned about healthy living and such. Working out has become such a fad, compared to say even 10 years ago. Also locating somewhere near Bukit Jalil would mean we would attract a whole lot of athletes as well, but this is still in planning. Im still looking at other places like Damansara and Solaris Dutamas. But venue will be a solid way that we could make money from.

The appearance! Sometimes gyms just serve their purpose, some equipment and that’s it. Although I’m all for it, from a business point of view, its gonna be how it looks to the outside world. With all my contacts in the sporting industry, I can be sure to make the gym look really good and appealing, like the front of a Nike Concept store I might add. Aren’t we all really tempted to at least take a peek.

Management Team There is no management team to speak of. I do however have a few names in mind that would be able to help with the management of the gym. Being with the national karate team, Im constantly surrounded by athletes and management staff and have already bounced countless ideas off of them.

Description It all started as I wanted to find a cure for my multiple ailments. I managed to find it in mangosteen. I extract xanthone from mangosteen and turn it into palatable juice. The juice cured my hypertension, diabetes, arthritis as well as cough. I used to take pills daily for ten years until 4 years ago I need not take any more pills. I have a list of testimonials verifying the effectiveness of my mangosteen juice and mangosteen soap. I spent the next 10 years doing research on mangosteen. The latest product that I have formulated is detergent.
Almost all detergents and shampoos use SLS as their base; and SLS itself causes skin irritation. So far nobody has found a substitute for SLS because it is cheap. Now I have found a good substitute for SLS in xanthones that can be found in mangosteen skin. Mangosteen skin can be collected and is free, therefore our raw material is free. Hence our detergent production cost is low.
Business Opportunity Our Mangosteen Juice Concentrate is comparable to Xango and Veema, the two top runners of mangosteen juice in America. And in USA mangosteen juice is a billion dollar market. The market in Middle East and China is still untouched.
